What are Industrial Fasteners?

Industrial fasteners are devices and tools used to hold the assembly together. The primary role of a fastener is to promote safety by joining joints. In most cases, the parts of the fastener are mechanical.

There are different types of fasteners to choose from depending on the size and the nature of the application. Most of the fasteners are relatively basic. But it is just as essential to get them in the right quality.

Importance of Industrial Fasteners

Fasteners are a part of virtually every industry you can think of. You will find fasteners in consumer devices like computers and smartphones and in advanced devices such as robotics, medical adhesives and machines.

You will find industrial fasteners even in rock concerts, vehicles, and street lamps. Buying the right fastener can significantly improve the quality and safety of the assembly. At TFC, we also have durable and rust-resisting fasteners. These are made from zinc, hot-dip galvanizing or chrome. We also have coated fasteners to give the application a more polished look.

Types of fasteners

We stock an extensive range of fasteners ranging from bolts to nails. Knowing the right type of fastener you need for your project is crucial. It will ensure the project is more secure and safer, and the fasteners are easier to install.

Bolts nuts and washers

These are a standard type of fastener that helps clamp two joints together. You can insert bolts through the two parts you want to join, then fasten them in place with a nut on the end. Depending on the project, you’re likely to use different bolts. These are;

  • Carriage bolts
  • Hex bolts
  • Plough bolts
  • Flange bolts
  • Hanger bolts
  • Square-head bolts

Screws

Screws are very similar to bolts. The only difference is they don’t need a nut on the other end. They use their threaded shafts to provide their holding power. The screws are designed to be affixed with screwdrivers. Like bolts, there are different types of screws;

  • Coach screws – This is a heavy-duty screw. It has a square or hexagonal head and an externally threaded cylindrical shaft. The shaft tapers to a point at the top. They are used for holding heavy timber, and you can use them to affix metal to wood, concrete and masonry.
  • Self-drilling screws – They are fitted with a point that works as a drill bit. Self-drilling screws tap the hole during installation. They are a common option for drilling into both metal and wood.

Threaded inserts

Threaded inserts make inserting a screw directly into a thicker wall or surface easy. You can use threaded inserts when placing screws through concrete where they don’t attach very well.

Rivets

Rivets are permanent industrial fastener that creates a strong joint between two objects. They comprise a cylindrical shaft with a head on one end and a tail on the other. You use an individual tool to expand the rear of the rivet to make it stay in place.

Compared to other types of fasteners, rivets are more durable. Common types of rivets include;

  • Lock bold and collar
  • POR rivet
  • Shear connectors
  • Split rivets

TFC offers a complete range of fasteners, including studding and threaded rod fasteners and sheet metal fasteners. With our experience and notoriety for making quality products engineered to the requirements of our customers, we can deliver the best industrial fasteners to customers’ and applications’ specifications.  Others include:

Anchors: Anchors are fasteners used to secure objects to concrete, masonry, or other solid surfaces. They provide stability and support in applications where the base material cannot bear the load alone. Common types of anchors include expansion anchors, screw anchors, and wedge anchors.

Studs: Studs are fasteners without a head that have threads on both ends. They are often used in applications where components need to be easily assembled and disassembled. Studs can be threaded into one component and then tightened with a nut on the other end.

Clips and Clamps: Clips and clamps are fasteners used to hold objects together or secure them to a surface. They come in various forms, such as spring clips, hose clamps, and retaining clips, and are often used in automotive, electrical, and plumbing applications.

There are many other specialised fasteners available, including pins, dowels, hooks, and more, each designed for specific applications and requirements.
