In this high thrust capacity application, it was necessary to provide a ring that could also absorb occasional shock loading from the 100mm diameter pistons. A single turn constant section XFH-100 ring manufactured from square-edged carbon spring steel material is located in a non-standard groove in order to provide the necessary support for the radial wall of the ring. The increased groove depth reduced the bending moment of the ring and prevented the ring from ‘rolling’ out of the groove when subjected to sporadic shock loading.
Constant Section Rings or Snap Rings are often specified for heavy-duty or impact loading applications. Produced by edge-winding, with no custom tooling charges, snap rings have been specified for many years in the automotive and heavy equipment industries as a standard choice of engineers.
TFC offers eight Smalley series of snap rings from stock:
- Over 1,000 stock sizes
- Inch and Metric series rings available
- Stocked from .375 to 10 diameters, 13 mm to 300 mm
- Customs available from .200 to 120
